چکیده

Damping induced by vertically sloshing liquids at large amplitudes is of interest in the understanding dynamic response aircraft wings containing fuel. This work presents experimental investigation sloshing-induced damping two small rectangular tanks ( L = 100 mm , h 37 . 5 and 50 ) under vertical excitation various frequencies (3.3 to 10 3 Hz (up 1.57 tank heights). The focus placed on that lead violent interactions between liquid nonlinear effects they cause. dissipative energy dimensional form shows a deviation from linearity with increasing amplitude excitation, which attributed force–displacement hysteresis sub-cycle formations. When frequency it shown increases initially, then remains constant. These findings are confirmed kinematics-based ballistic-harmonic model. Optical flow new technique based pixel intensity standard employed correlation an analysis cycles order offer insight into force variation within one cycle oscillation. • Nonlinear due studied. Dissipative trends across range shown. A ballistic model explains reasons behind observed trends.

Damping of liquid sloshing by foams: from everyday observations to liquid transport

We perform experiments on the sloshing dynamics of liquids in a rectangular container submitted to an impulse. We show that when foam is placed on top of the liquid the oscillations of the free interface are significantly damped. The ability to reduce sloshing and associated splashing could find applications in numerous industrial processes involving liquid transport. When a container is set in...

Damping Optimization for Linear Vibrating Systems Using Dimension Reduction

We consider a mathematical model of a linear vibrational system described by the second-order system of differential equations Mẍ +Dẋ+Kx = 0, where M, K and D are positive definite matrices, called mass, stiffness and damping, respectively. We are interested in finding an optimal damping matrix which will damp a certain part of the undamped eigenfrequencies. For this we use a minimization crite...

Statistical energy analysis of nonlinear vibrating systems.

Nonlinearities in practical systems can arise in contacts between components, possibly from friction or impacts. However, it is also known that quadratic and cubic nonlinearity can occur in the stiffness of structural elements undergoing large amplitude vibration, without the need for local contacts. Nonlinearity due purely to large amplitude vibration can then result in significant energy bein...
